Going to a live sports event can be thrilling—but for children and adults with sensory sensitivities, it can also be overwhelming. Loud music, flashing lights, and crowded stadiums often create a challenging environment, especially for individuals on the autism spectrum. That’s why the New York Red Bulls’ latest upgrade at Sports Illustrated Stadium is such a big deal.

The team recently unveiled the newly renovated Altec Lansing Sensory Room, created in partnership with KultureCity and equipped with cutting-edge sensory tools. Located on the 5th floor of the stadium, this quiet and inclusive space allows fans with sensory needs to enjoy Red Bulls matches in comfort—no special tickets required.

Inside the Altec Lansing Sensory Room

What makes this sensory room special isn’t just the space—it’s the thoughtful design behind it. The room features noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, and visual supports to help reduce stress and manage sensory input during games. The renovations, led by Altec Lansing in collaboration with KultureCity, ensure the room meets high standards of accessibility and neurodivergent inclusion.

This update debuted during the Red Bulls’ Autism Acceptance match against Chicago Fire FC, where additional accommodations included quieter music, sensory sacks with calming tools, and a dedicated quiet zone in the plaza area. It’s part of a broader shift in making public events more accessible to families with special needs—and it’s a welcome one.

A Step Forward for Sensory Inclusion in NYC

Spaces like this sensory room are vital—not just for comfort, but for participation. Families raising children with autism often avoid public events due to the lack of sensory support. But when organizations design with inclusion in mind, they create more opportunities for neurodivergent individuals to be part of the community.

Whether it’s sports, museums, or theater, we believe every child should feel welcome and supported in public spaces. As we see more of these thoughtful accommodations around New York, it’s important to also have ongoing, individualized support that helps children thrive in every setting.
